Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Thursday donated 250 desktop computers to the Igbaja Computer-Based Testing Centre in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
This donation is aimed at facilitating the smooth conduct of JAMB and other CBT exams for students in the region.
The CBT Centre, originally constructed by Major General Adelokun Eyitayo as part of a special intervention project by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General T. A. Lagbaja, was commissioned in June.
At the time, the Governor pledged to equip the Centre with computers to ensure it met JAMB standards.
During the presentation of the computers on Thursday in Igbaja, the Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr Mary Arinde, stated that this initiative was intended to reduce the difficulties faced by students in the district during the JAMB examinations.
“When we visited in June for the commissioning, we saw this impressive structure built by Major General Eyitayo. It was very exciting, and we promised to equip it with computers so that the students can take their CBT exams here,” the Governor said.
“This intervention is aimed at alleviating the challenges students in this region face when sitting for JAMB examinations. Education is the heartbeat of our administration because it is the cornerstone of human development. That is why we are committed to implementing policies and programs in education with utmost seriousness.”
In his remarks, the Elese of Igbaja, Oba Ahmed Arepo, expressed gratitude to the Governor, noting that the initiative would significantly encourage schoolchildren to become proficient in computer usage, among other benefits. The monarch prayed for the Governor’s continued success in office.
Community leader, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, speaking on behalf of the community, praised the Governor’s intervention, emphasising its importance to over 20 secondary schools in Igbajaland and surrounding areas.
“This is a commendable initiative by the Governor. We have more than 25 secondary schools in the area, and our students previously had to travel to Ilorin or even Lagos to take computer-based exams. With this CBT centre now established, they no longer need to travel far; they can easily access the facility and complete their exams. We deeply appreciate this,” he said.
