Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading sustainable building solutions company, has introduced an electric vehicle truck to its supply chain fleet.
This launch, in partnership with Tolaram, is the first of its kind in Africa, highlighting Lafarge Africa’s strong dedication to sustainable practices and innovative solutions for a greener future.
Under the ‘Accelerating Green Mobility’ strategy, Lafarge Africa is aiming to substantially reduce the carbon footprint within its supply chain, the company said in a statement.
The Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa Plc, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi spoke at the EV truck launch in the company’s Ewekoro factory, celebrating a significant milestone in their sustainability journey.
The CEO said the introduction of Nigeria’s first heavy goods electric vehicle truck demonstrates Lafarge’s dedication to innovation and environmentally responsible practices.
Alade-Akinyemi revealed the company’s ongoing efforts to integrate eco-friendly practices, emphasising the positive impact on the environment and stakeholders.
He remarked that the EV truck offers quieter, smoother, and safer operations, enhancing efficiency and customer experience while contributing to a healthier planet.
The Logistics Director at Lafarge Africa Plc, Osaze Aghatise, stressed the importance of EV truck in the company’s logistics strategy, marking a shift toward eco-friendly and sustainable transportation.
Aghatise emphasized the company’s commitment to leadership in the industry, showcasing their dedication to competitive and sustainable supply chains.
He reflected on their progress, starting with the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas trucks in 2017 and expanding efforts in 2021 with 50 additional CNG trucks.
