A Nigerian-owned educational institution, Westerfield College has announced the establishment of a campus in the United Kingdom.

The college’s founder, Mr Michael Dosunmu, in a statement made available to our correspondent, said the campus will provide English language upskilling courses, leadership training, a summer camp for students aged 10 to 17, and a pre-masters programme for graduates seeking academic refinement before enrolling in UK universities.

He added that the UK campus will offer a range of programmes, including pre-university courses in business, science, and engineering.

According to Dosunmu, the campus is expected to reinforce Nigeria-UK bilateral trade relations, particularly in the education sector.

“We are thrilled to announce the launch of our UK campus, which marks a significant milestone in our journey to provide world-class education to our students,” he said.

Dosunmu assured that the UK campus will maintain the same high standards of academic excellence and integrity as Westerfield College in Nigeria.

“We are committed to providing our students with a world-class education that prepares them for success in an increasingly competitive global economy,” he said.

Speaking at the official launch of the campus, at the residence of the British Deputy High Commissioner, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, expressed his excitement over Westerfield College’s expansion, calling it a testament to vision and dedication.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education as a tool for progress, unity, and global understanding.

“This new campus serves as a bridge connecting cultures, ideas, and aspirations. It symbolizes a shared vision for an education system that transcends borders and empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully to society.

“I am confident that this expansion will not only enrich the academic landscape in the UK but also strengthen our bilateral ties,” he said.

On his part, the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Jonny Baxter, stressed that bilateral trade between the United Kingdom and Nigeria extended beyond the presence of UK businesses in Nigeria.

Baxter highlighted the importance of fostering trade between the two countries.

He stressed the need for Nigerian businesses to establish themselves in the UK, reinforcing economic ties between the two nations.

“We want to see trade flourish, driving prosperity, innovation, and cooperation. Many UK businesses operate successfully in Nigeria across various sectors, including energy, financial services, infrastructure, and education.

“But trade is not just about UK companies coming to Nigeria. That’s why today’s event is so significant, it showcases how Nigerian businesses can also expand into the UK,” he added.
