The Labour Party candidate for the forthcoming Ondo Governorship election, Dr Ayodele Olorunfemi, has pledged to tackle corruption in public offices if elected.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos, Olorunfemi vowed that “no corrupt person will escape our system.”

He also stated that his administration would adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards the wastage of public funds.

The LP candidate noted that corruption and bribery have deprived the masses of the dividends of democracy.

Olorunfemi emphasised that winning the fight against corruption is essential for the party to implement its comprehensive transformation plan and bring happiness to the state’s residents.

“Corruption is why life has become difficult for the masses. It is why there is poverty in our land, and people are angry with public officeholders.

“We must eliminate corruption in public offices; we must eliminate corruption in procurement and contract costs.

“In our government, there will be no room for corruption; state resources are sufficient to create the happiness everyone is yearning for,” Olorunfemi stated.

He promised to follow all necessary processes and procedures to combat corruption in the state if elected.

The LP candidate pledged to ensure a robust accountability system, transparency in the procurement process, and to curb bribery in public offices through the effective use of technology.

“We shall put mechanisms in place to achieve this because corruption has created a wide gap between the rich and the poor.

“No corrupt person will escape our system,” he declared.

Olorunfemi cited Governor Alex Otti of Abia, the only LP governor in the country, as an example of success due to a zero-tolerance policy on corruption.

“The governor (Otti) is determined to get things done and to spend government money for the people, not for himself and cronies; that is what we are going to do in Ondo if elected.

“Government money is going to be spent for the people,” he asserted.

NAN reports that 17 political parties are fielding candidates for the off-cycle governorship election in Ondo State, scheduled for 16th November by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
