In a bid to stem the tide of drink-driving in the country, the Beer Sectoral Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria has flagged off the 2023 edition of its “Don’t Drink and Drive” campaign.
In his opening remarks at the kick-off of the campaign in Lagos on Wednesday, the Chairman of the BSG, Hans Essaadi, disclosed that the group had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Road Safety Corps in 2017 in its bid to discourage drink-driving.
He said, “A popular feature of our campaign is the voluntary breathalyzer tests, where in partnership with the FRSC, we encourage members of the public to participate in free breathalyzer tests.
“The results of the test are often astonishing to the volunteers, and this goes a long way to drive home the message against drink-driving.”
On his part, the Assistant Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Gilbert Igbokwe, stated that alcohol was a major factor in most road accidents due to disorientation on the part of the driver.
