Meristem Securities Limited has unveiled a programme aimed at empowering young Nigerians with the skills and knowledge to succeed in business and investment.
The initiative, known as MORE by Meristem (Meristem Orientation for Rising Entrepreneurs), is a youth-focused platform designed to enhance financial literacy and entrepreneurial acumen among Nigeria’s youth, aligning with national economic growth objectives.
In a statement made available to our correspondent, the Group Managing Director of Meristem Securities Limited, Wole Abegunde, highlighted the programme’s strategic importance.
“Our goal with MORE is to improve financial literacy and financial inclusion among young people. We are committed to refining, supporting, and transforming the potential of Nigeria’s youth into wealth-generation opportunities,” he said.
The statement noted that the programme aimed to equip participants with the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the business world and secure financial independence.
“We have carefully curated learning opportunities to equip young people with knowledge and skills to practice wise investing locally and globally,” Abegunde added.
According to the firm, the initiative aligns with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s financial literacy and inclusion drive and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), and SDG 9 (industry, innovation, and infrastructure).
According to the Team Lead for Wealth Advisory at Meristem Wealth, Imaobong Asemah, the programme addresses a need among young Nigerians who aspire to start businesses.
“Many young people have the zeal to start businesses, but zeal alone is not sufficient. We have developed a training system that helps young entrepreneurs navigate the challenging business landscape in Nigeria and beyond.”
Also, the Lead Coach for MORE, Femi Oladele, emphasised the platform’s modern and engaging approach to education.
“Our platform is interactive and tailored to meet the 21st-century educational needs of Gen Zs and Gen Alphas. It includes self-paced learning resources, mentoring, and a pitch session, with specialized tracks for start-ups and scale-ups,” he stated.
He stated that the programme’s interactive nature and practical content are designed to inspire young people to pursue productive economic activities.
“Our contents are practical, easy-to-understand, and include lots of fun activities to inspire and guide young people’s investment journey. We understand that productive youthful participation is key to sustaining Nigeria’s growth trajectory. Our platform provides opportunities for business development, laced with exciting learning options,” he added.
The Nigerian Exchange Limited has collaborated with Meristem Securities to launch a USSD platform aimed at enhancing financial inclusion and expanding access to the capital market.
