Morrissey says that he may cease playing shows in the UK, blaming a lack of record label interest for his lofty decision.

The artist, who was dropped by Harvest Records last year and has not yet found a new home, posted a message on to his fansite True to You which suggests his forthcoming London dates could be his last in Britain.

His statement reads:

“There is absolutely no way that we can generate any interest from record labels in the United Kingdom, therefore the imminent two nights at Hammersmith are likely to be our final ever UK shows. We are obsessively grateful for all interest and loyalty from our audience … throughout 28 years … but without new releases, there is no point in any additional touring. Thank you for so many absolutely incredible times. The pleasure and privilege is mine …

Morrissey and Harvest’s relationship took a plunge after just 10 months, with the former Smiths frontman claiming the label promoted his album, World Peace Is None of Your Business, insufficiently. To further rile the situation, he wore “Fuck Harvest” T-shirts at shows, which prompted the label to sell versions of the garment from their online merchandise store.

During Morrissey’s shows in November 2014, the singer appeared to bid farewell to his London audience during an emotional rendition of Asleep, by quoting Henry Purcell: “Remember me, forget my fate.”

Earlier this year, Moz told Spanish newspaper El País that he had reached out to a number of labels, but had been “rejected” by all of them.

Morrissey’s (potentially) last UK shows take place on 20 and 21 September at theEventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London.
