A Nigerian cyclist, Sekinat Taiwo, has broken a Guinness World Record, shattering the 250-kilometre target by covering 347 kilometres on a closed circuit held at the National Theatre in Lagos State.

The cyclist broke the record for the longest distance covered by an electric auto-rickshaw in 12 hours with the Teak EV’s state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery technology and was certified by the Guinness World Records adjudicator, Carl Saville.

In a statement on Monday, the Chef Executive Officer of Qoray Mobility and Energies Limited, Olabanjo Alimi, said the feat is a milestone for Nigeria and the global transition to sustainable transport.

He said, “This is not just a record for Qoray – it’s a milestone for Nigeria and the global transition to sustainable transport that African innovation is both competitive and transformative.

“This achievement lays the foundation for clean, accessible, and efficient transportation driven by solutions that come from the heart of Africa.

“The historic event was made possible through the collaboration of key partners. National Theatre, a symbol of Nigerian cultural excellence, played a pivotal role by providing its premises for countless mock tests and serving as the venue for the record-breaking attempt.”

He added, “Sekinat Taiwo, whose endurance and skill brought this record to life, embodies determination and possibility. Her remarkable achievement sends a clear message: African solutions, powered by innovation, can rival the best on the global stage.

“This record-breaking feat is more than an achievement for Qoray Mobility—it promises a cleaner, greener, and brilliantly innovative future.”
