Slavia Prague coach Jindrich Trpisovsky has said that Nigerian defender Igoh Ogbu is believed to have suffered a tear in the adductor muscle in the groin, potentially ruling the 25-year-old out for weeks.

Ogbu was absent from Slavia’s travelling squad for Saturday’s league fixture against FK Dukla Prague which ended goalless, with club officials confirming his omission was due to physical issues.

Ogbu, who recently earned his first call-up to the Super Eagles for March’s World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, did not feature for Nigeria during the international break despite being named in Eric Chelle’s squad.

Speaking to reporters at the post-match press conference after his side dropped points against Dukla Prague, Trpisovsky revealed that Ogbu is set to undergo a medical assessment to determine the severity of his injury.

“I don’t have a detailed report yet; he’s is going to have an MRI,” Trpisovsky was quoted as saying by Slavia’s official webpage.

The coach also expressed concerns about the nature of the defender’s injury, suggesting it could lead to a significant period on the sidelines saying, “The first predictions are a tear in the adductor muscle in the groin. He was injured like this once and came back in half the time. We’ll see after the examination.”

Chairman of the Board of Directors Slavia Prague, Jaroslav Tvrdik, confirmed that Ogbu faces a spell out of action, with the injury deemed serious enough that recovery within a week is not expected.

The centre-back has been a crucial component in Slavia’s defensive setup this season, contributing significantly to the team’s impressive record of sixteen clean sheets across all competitions.
