The Ogun State Government has embarked on a monitoring exercise in all parks and garages in the state.

It said in a statement that the exercise, tagged, ‘Task Force Control of Transport Fares of Motorists and Unethical Practice by Filling Stations’, was inaugurated by the state government through the Ministry of Transportation. It said the exercise commenced last week.

The Commissioner For Transportation, Dairo Olugbenga, said there is a need to feel the pulse of the people of Ogun with respect to the transport fares in the states.

“The vision of this exercise is to feel the pulse of the good people of Ogun State by ensuring and confirming that they are not being overburdened by the cost of transportation in the State.

“We earlier met with all union leaders in the state and instructed them not to inflate the price of tickets on the excuse of the high fuel cost. The high cost of transportation in the country is due to fuel prices and as such the necessity to ameliorate pressures on the citizenry should be as swift. This, as a matter of urgency, has been kicked into action since last Monday.

Dairo said the activities of the task force were not limited to the  Ministry of Transportation.

“The decision to constitute the monitoring team is a direct order from the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the purpose is to ensure that citizens are not overburdened with the high cost of transportation while we as a ministry envisioned the best possible way to ease movement for our people in Ogun State,” he stated.

To achieve this, he said the Department of State Security Service, the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement team, among others, have been involved.
