News ArticleOlukoya advises parents to nuture learners

The Visitor and Chancellor, Mountain Top University, Dr Daniel Olukoya, has appealed to parents not to leave the nurturing of their children to tertiary institutions alone.

Speaking in a statement at the 8th matriculation of the institution, Olukoya, said every student who enrolled in MTU for the first time must go through the rites of matriculation and take the matriculation oath, signifying formal admission in MTU.

While advising the parents, he said, ‘‘Let me turn briefly to our parents. First, I congratulate you also because, by reason of your ward’s matriculation, you have become a major stakeholder and friend of Mountain Top University. Whether you are a university graduate or not, pay attention to the work of your wards. Guide them to attain academic and professional excellence. Nurture your wards to bear good fruits. Do not leave them for the university. May you reap the fruits of your labour in Jesus name.’’

Olukoya also congratulated the matriculants on the life-transforming transition and admonished them to make the best use of the opportunities offered through the matriculation and membership of Mountain Top University.

‘‘We are pleased to be matriculating the second batch of postgraduate students who have been enrolled into various Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral programmes. We hope they will remain in academia to promote scholarship and excellence for which this university is dedicated.’’

Also speaking, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elijah Ayolabi, said, “Today, Mountain Top University is matriculating a total of 502 students.  253 in the College of Humanities, Management, and Social Sciences. 22 in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences and 27 in the School of Postgraduate Studies.

“Although we are only eight years old, our student population has grown considerably. We have graduated a total of 727 including five M.Sc graduates within this relatively short period of time. We now have a total of 27 National Universities Commission accredited and approved undergraduate programmes.”
