Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has shared more updates on his recovery from an injury that has sidelined him since October 2024, as he continues to search for a new club ahead of the summer transfer window, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Omeruo went under the knife in October after playing just five league games in the 2024/25 season.

After returning to the grass in January, Omeruo has been without a club following the mutual termination of his contract at Turkish side Kasimpasa. His last match for Kasimpasa came in a dramatic 3-3 draw against Galatasaray, after which he spent months recovering.

With his club future now uncertain, Omeruo is searching for a new team before the summer transfer window opens.

On Monday, the 2013 AFCON winner shared a video of a personal training session at the facility of his former club CD Leganese in Spain, hinting at a possible return to the Spanish club.

The 31-year-old recently explained why he agreed to end his spell in Turkey.

“Right now I am a free player because after my surgery, my team needed to sign a new centre back and they were out of the slots for foreign players,” Omeruo said on Arise TV.

“They spoke to me as the captain and they wanted to take me out of the team to bring a new player. I said OK, I can’t be here if I am not registered so we had a mutual termination so I could go home and be with my family and recover.

“Thank God I am good now, almost 100 per cent and I will start looking for a new club before the summer.”

Omeruo, who had short stints with Sunshine Stars and JUTH FC before moving to Chelsea in 2012 has featured for clubs in the Netherlands, Turkey and Spain.

Most of his club football has been at Leganes, where he spent five seasons before rejoining Kasimpasa.

For Nigeria, Omeruo has been a key figure since making his senior debut in 2013. He has earned 69 caps, scoring one goal for the country.
