Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika is a doubt for Nigeria’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March after going off injured in his club’s 2-1 defeat at home to Standard Liege in Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
He added to the injury concerns of the Super Eagles after he was forced off in the 23rd minute of the Belgian League game.
Club Brugge also announced Onyedika’s injury although the extent is still unknown.
“Onyedika has to go off injured. Nielsen comes in his place,” the club posted via X.
Onyedika is the third Super Eagles player to be injured over this weekend after Semi Ajayi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Semi Ajayi was injured in West Brom’s 2-0 win over Oxford United, while Dele-Bashiru suffered an ankle injury in Lazio’s goalless draw with Venezia.
The injuries must be a concern for new Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe next month.
The midfielder has made 14 appearances for Nigeria, scoring one goal
At the club level, he has been instrumental in Club Brugge’s run on the domestic and international scenes.
He has one league goal plus one assist just as he has in the UEFA Champions League as well where they will now face Aston Villa in the round of 16.
