Akwa United head coach, Fatai Osho, has backed the Promise Keepers to bounce back from their opening day loss when they host high-flying Sport Lagos on Sunday (today) at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, PRIMANEWS Sports Extra report.
Osho’s men suffered a disappointing 5-3 defeat to Bayelsa United in Yenagoa last Sunday but the gaffer believes the lapses noticed from the painful loss have been worked on ahead of their fixture against the Noisy Lagosians, who started off their debut campaign in the topflight with a 2-0 home win over Gombe United last weekend.
“This is going to be our first home match in front of our fans and we know that they deserve the very best from us because we have enjoyed tremendous support and encouragement from the Pastor Umo Eno-led government, who have put everything at our disposal to guarantee a hitch-free season,” Osho said ahead of the game.
“We are in good shape to go all out and give our best to ensure we achieve our target, which is to win this game for our beloved fans and the wonderful people of Akwa Ibom State.
“We didn’t get the result we wanted on match-day one, but we have put that behind us and we are focusing on the game at hand. We have worked really hard since we came back from Yenagoa and I’m happy that the boys have shown serious improvement in training and I’m confident that they will take that sparkling form into the match proper on Sunday.”
Sporting Lagos midfielder, Chinedu Ufere, said they were in good shape ahead of the clash against Akwa United.
“We are ready for Akwa United’s game on Sunday,” he said.
“We are in good shape, we have goals in us and we want to achieve greatness this season.” Meanwhile, Sporting Lagos head coach, Paul Offor, will not be in the dug when his side face Akwa United due to Club-related technical reasons.
Coach Abdul Isah will be leading the team in his temporary absence.
