WBF super featherweight world champion, Ridwan Oyekola knocked out Ghanaian Emmanuel Quartey in another form of the ‘Jollof Derby’ in the main event of Core Afrique Boxing Promotions ‘Homecoming’ event at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos on Friday, PRIMANEWS Sports Extra reports.
Oyekola came out flying and true to his word, he knocked Quarter out in the first round of a proposed ten-round featherweight clash.
Speaking to PRIMANEWS Sports Extra ahead of the bout, Oyekola has said that he would knock out his more experienced opponent on October 27.
“I know I can beat him, and I believe it will be with a knockout on Friday. I have prepared for this fight, and I am ready to give my all in the fight against the Ghanaian,” he said.
And after doing as he promised, the Japan-based Oyekola, who started his professional career in 2017, has now improved his wins record to 12, seven via knockouts. Nicknamed ‘Scorpion’, the Nigerian has only suffered one loss since 2019.
The visiting Quartey now has a record of 24 wins, 21 of them by knockouts, ten losses and one draw.
In other bouts on the night, Riliwan Babatunde defeated Isiaka Raimi by unanimous decision of the judges after six rounds welterweight clash. Babatunde has earlier dropped Raimi in round three of their bout.
Featherweight Lateef Azeez also earned a knockout win sending Bolaji Ade sprawling in round three on his professional debut while Kabiru Towolawi also knocked out his opponent, Joe John in the third round.
Rasheed Adeyemo won his bout over Lateef Shakiru by unanimous decision and Toheeb Wasiu beat Sunday Abudu by unanimous decision of the judges after six rounds heavyweight clash.
In the female light-heavyweight clash, Celina Agwu knocked Mary Eze out in the third round of the six-round bout.
