A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Iwajowa state constituency, Anthony Ogunsola, has unveiled the maiden edition of the Ogunsola Football Competition.

The tournament, which kicked off on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the ADS Primary School Playing Ground, Iwere-Ile, is set to feature 144 players across eight teams from the constituency.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ogunsola emphasised the importance of youth development as a cornerstone for community progress.

“Youth development remains a priority for me because I believe that empowered youths are the foundation for a thriving community. This competition is not just about football; it’s about bringing our communities together, fostering talents, and creating opportunities for our young people,” he said.

The eight participating teams include Iwere-Ile United, Ayetoro-Ile FC, Iganna United, Idiko-Ago & Itasa, Ofeegun FC, Elekokan United, Ilaji & Idiko-Ile, and Arikoserere FC will battle it out for glory over the course of the competition.

Ogunsola also encouraged the youths to see the event as a platform to showcase their talents and embrace sportsmanship.

“This competition offers you a chance to showcase your abilities and build lasting friendships. I urge all participants to play fairly and focus on personal and team growth,” he added.

In a statement on Tuesday, a representative of the Ogunsola Media Team, Olagbenro Sodiq described the initiative as a testament to the lawmaker’s commitment to grassroots development and his vision for a unified constituency.

The statement read, “Residents and football enthusiasts across Iwajowa State Constituency gathered in large numbers to witness the kickoff, expressing their excitement and gratitude for the initiative.

“The competition is expected to not only uncover budding football talents but also strengthen bonds among communities within the constituency.”
