The Premier League’s Super Sunday is set to deliver a thrilling encounter as Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield, with the match kicking off at 16:30 BST.

With both sides vying for a top-four finish, the battle between Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is expected to play a pivotal role in determining the outcome.

Liverpool’s Gravenberch has adapted to a more defensive role this season under manager Arne Slot, and his impressive form has drawn comparisons to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.

Known for his powerful runs and ball-carrying ability, the Dutch midfielder has been a standout performer, contributing defensively and offensively. His recent pre-assist in the opening goal against Manchester United showcased his ability to break up play and transition quickly into attack.

Gravenberch’s counterpart, Cole Palmer, has been equally impressive for Chelsea, with six goals and five assists to his name this season.

The former Hublot Young Player of the Season has become a key creative force for Chelsea, making him a constant threat in transition.

His ability to exploit space with his ball-carrying skills has seen him rank among the top players for creating chances from dribbles, only behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in goal contributions from such runs.

Both Gravenberch and Palmer will have to balance their attacking contributions with defensive responsibilities. Liverpool’s Gravenberch, alongside Alexis Mac Allister, will need to maintain compactness in midfield to prevent Palmer from finding space in dangerous areas.

Gravenberch’s defensive awareness, with 42 ball recoveries and a tackle success rate of 80%, makes him a key figure in stopping Chelsea’s fast breaks.

Chelsea’s threat on the counter is well-documented, with no team in the league having more shots from fast breaks this season.

Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have been particularly effective in these situations, combining for several goals in recent matches, including a stunning lob from Palmer during their 6-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

This aspect of Chelsea’s play will be a major concern for Liverpool, who will need to find the right balance between maintaining their attacking momentum and guarding against counter-attacks.

Liverpool’s only defeat this season came against Nottingham Forest, a game where they were punished on the counter. The memory of that loss will serve as a reminder of Chelsea’s potency in quick transitions, urging Liverpool’s midfield to stay cautious.

“If one of these standout performers can dominate the other, they are unlikely to end up on the losing side,” football analyst Adrian Clarke said.
Liverpool will look to capitalise on their home advantage, but Chelsea’s attacking threats ensure that the contest remains finely balanced.

Meanwhile, Wolves will host Manchester City at Molineux Stadium earlier in the day, with kickoff scheduled for 14:00 BST.

The match, broadcast on Canal+ and SuperSport, will see Wolves aiming to challenge the reigning champions, who are determined to maintain their title defence.
