In a historic milestone, 17-year-old senior secondary three student, Nyuima Tersee from Platform Schools, Ipaja, has emerged as the winner of the National Chess Championship in Nigeria. This remarkable achievement makes Nyuima the youngest player to ever win the championship.

Nyuima’s impressive victory has earned him a prestigious title, a cash prize of ₦750,000, and a coveted ticket to represent Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Individual Chess Championship.

He has also been named the poster boy of the Nigeria Chess Federation.

Director of Platform Schools, Ipaja, Dr. Bola Obe, expressed his heartfelt congratulations and pride in Nyuima’s achievement.

“I am overwhelmed and happy. I’m grateful to God for the consistent success of Platform Schools. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, and staff.

“Nyuima’s remarkable achievement serves as a shining example of what can be accomplished with determination, passion, and the right support.”

He explained that Platform Schools had consistently demonstrated excellence in national games and sports, including chess, music, quiz competitions, and more.

“Our school’s success can be attributed to its committed and dedicated teachers, who create a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth,” he maintained.
