Police arrest Abia student for unlawful possession of firearms

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old 300-level student of the Department of Animal Breeding and Physiology, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, for unlawful possession of firearms.

In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the police recovered three locally made pistols and one English CZECH SCORPION pistol from the suspect, identified as Chidozie Humble.

The statement reads, “On 05/03/2025, at about 10:50hrs, detectives from the Serious Crime Investigation Squad (SCISSORS), Abia State Command, leveraging on credible intelligence, apprehended Chidozie Humble in his room at Royal Heritage Lodge, Umudike, Ikwuano LGA.

“During the operation, officers recovered three (3) locally made pistols and one (1) English CZECH SCORPION pistol.”

The command reaffirmed its commitment to reducing crime to the barest minimum in the state.

“Meanwhile, the suspect is undergoing interrogation in view to apprehend his accomplices,” the statement added.
