The Kano State Police have recovered and arrested a suspect who stole and abandoned a grey Rav-4 mini jeep, with registration number YAB 881 JK Abuja.

Confirming the recovery, the command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna, via a press statement made available to The PUNCH on Monday, said, “On December 28, 2024, at approximately 5:00 pm, a team of policemen from the Anti-Car Theft Unit, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Kano State Police Command, recovered an abandoned Rav-4 motor vehicle.”

The vehicle, according to the statement, is grey-coloured, with registration number, YAB 881 JK, Abuja, which was found during a round-the-clock visibility patrol along Kwanar Ungogo, Ungogo LGA, Kano State.

“Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Bala Sani, a 40-year-old male from Funtua LGA, Katsina State.

“The suspect was apprehended on January 4, 2025, at his hometown in Kwado Quarters, Katsina LGA, Katsina State,” he added.

During the preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with another individual to steal the Rav-4 from Zaria, Kaduna State.

He said, “He further admitted to driving the vehicle to Kano with the intention of selling it but on realizing the presence of police officers near Ungogo Junction, the suspect hurriedly abandoned the vehicle and escaped to his hometown.”

Meanwhile, the recovered mini jeep is currently in the custody of the command, while the suspect will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.

The command further urged the owner of the motor vehicle to report to the Police Public Relations Office, Kano State Command, or contact 08067885568 with proof of ownership.

Emphasising community cooperation, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, called on Kano residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the following Kano Police Command’s contact numbers  08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926 for prompt action.
