The Katsina State police command has rescued at least five women who were abducted in Kurba village, Kankara Local Government Area of the state.

Operatives from the Dutsin-Ma Police Division had given the gunmen who launched the attack on the village on Monday, a hot chase, in response to a distress call.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, told our correspondent that the five rescued victims had been reunited with their families.

He said, “Our men rescued five women. The gunmen attacked the community around midnight. We responded to the distress call swiftly, which resulted in the rescue of the suspects. There was a shoot-out.

“We successfully rescued the abducted women.”

In another operation in the Malumfashi Local Government Area, the police rescued two kidnap victims.

Both Hafsat Amadu and Musa Sani had been kidnapped after bandits attacked Gidan Filoti and Gidan Mairabo villages.

Counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, made this known via a post.

He wrote, “Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Malumfashi led a joint security team on a rescue operation to the Burdugau area, believed to be one of the bandits’ hideouts.

“The security team engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel, forcing the criminals to flee with bullet wounds and leaving the captives behind.

“Both victims were rescued unhurt and have since been reunited with their families.”
