President Bola Tinubu has honoured the Super Falcons and their coaches for winning the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with national awards, new homes, and cash prizes.

At a special reception held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President awarded each player and member of the 11-man technical crew the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

He also announced that each of the 24 players and the technical team would receive a three-bedroom flat in Abuja’s Renewed Hope Housing Estate.

In addition to the homes, Tinubu gave a cash reward of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to each member of the technical crew.

The President jokingly said he did not want to watch the WAFCON final live because he was too nervous and didn’t want to raise his blood pressure.

The Nigerian Governors Forum, represented by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, also gave ₦10 million to each player as a reward for their outstanding achievement.

Earlier on Monday, President Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu welcomed the team at the Presidential Villa after their 3-2 comeback win against hosts Morocco in the final match on Saturday.

The team arrived at the State House around 4:36 p.m., where they were received by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

In a video call after the match, President Tinubu praised team captain and tournament MVP Rasheedat Ajibade, and congratulated the team for their strong second-half performance after being 2-0 down at half-time.

The Super Falcons have now won four WAFCON titles in the last 10 years — 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2025 — bringing their total to 10 championships, the most in Africa.
