The Benue State Police Command has begun an investigation into the killing of a young lawyer identified as Mike Ofikwu in Otukpo town area of Benue State by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

PUNCH Metro gathered on Thursday that the gunmen stormed the lawver’s house located at Otukpa Street in Otukpo on Wednesday night.

A source close to the deceased’s house who did not want to be mentioned told our correspondent that the deceased was returning home in the night when two gunmen approached him and shot him dead at the entrance of his house.

He said, “Two men armed with guns had laid an ambush for him and while the lawyer was waiting for his people to open the gate for him, the assailants came out from their hiding and shot him at close range.

“He was immediately rushed to the hospital where medical personnel pronounced him dead.”

The spokesperson for the state police command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.

Anene said an investigation to the death of the legal practitioner was ongoing and promised the command’s commitment to fish out the perpetrators.

“This incident is confirmed and investigation is ongoing. I commiserate with his family and friends and assure them that justice  will be served,” the PPRO said in a terse statement..
