Rivers Hoopers will face off against Union Sportive Monastirienne in the 2024 Basketball Africa League play-offs at BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, on Monday, Sunday PRIMANEWS reports.
The Nigerians slumped to 63-57 to AS Douanes in the second quarter-final game on Saturday, while Firas Lahyani’s three-point buzzer beater saw US Monastir beat Petro de Luanda 70-67 in the first quarter-final, epitomising their revival this season.
For a team that started the season with a three-game losing streak to now be 4-3, this win says a lot about the 2022 BAL winners’ transformation since the end of the Kalahari Conference on May 12.
Hoopers fell short as the Nigerians faced off against AS Douanes for the third time in less than a month.
Both teams shared one win apiece when they met in the Sahara Conference last month in Dakar, Senegal, as Hoopers won the 2024 Sahara Conference with a 4-2 record while AS Douanes finished second with a 3-3 mark.
Led by Kelvin Amayo, Will Perry, Devine Eke, and Peter Olisemeka, the Hoopers showed in Dakar that they can compete and beat any team.
They had beaten AS Douanes by nine (77-68) and lost by two (56-54) in the final second of the game, which indicates how evenly matched these two teams are, but the Tunisians had the edge this term as they seek a return to the final for the second straight season.
