Saint-Louis is the capital of Senegal’s Saint-Louis Region, located in the northwest of Senegal. The city was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 and cultural tourism has become an engine of growth. As a result of this, a process of gentrification has set in, with many historic buildings on the island being turned into restaurants and hotels.
