Super Eagles forward Moses Simon is on the verge of etching his name in FC Nantes’ history books as the club’s most prolific penalty taker in over three decades.

According to MediaSportif, Simon has converted six consecutive Ligue 1 penalties since 2020, a feat unmatched by any Nantes player in the top flight since Nicolas Ouédec’s streak between 1991 and 1996. His flawless record places him ahead of recent specialists like Imran Louza and Ludovic Blas, both of whom missed penalties after scoring five and six in succession, respectively.

If the 28-year-old successfully converts one more spot-kick, he will surpass both Filip Djordjevic and Ludovic Blas to become Nantes’ most reliable penalty taker of the 21st century.

Simon maintained his perfect run last weekend, slotting home a crucial penalty in Nantes’ 3-1 victory over Lens—his third successful spot-kick of the season. The win lifted the Canaries to 14th place in Ligue 1, boosting their fight against relegation. His stellar performance also earned him a place in WhoScored.com’s Ligue 1 Team of the Week.

This season, Simon has been one of Nantes’ standout performers, contributing six goals and seven assists in 21 league appearances. His composure from the spot has added another dimension to his game, making him one of the league’s most reliable penalty takers. Only OGC Nice’s Gaëtan Laborde (4/4) and Le Havre’s Abdoulaye Touré (3/3) share his 100% conversion rate in Ligue 1 this season.

His latest heroics came despite passing a late fitness test following an injury scare in training. Showing no signs of discomfort, the former Levante forward led Nantes’ attack with a goal and an assist.

Simon’s penalty doubled Nantes’ lead after Louis Leroux’s opener, but Lens threatened a comeback through Florian Sotoca’s strike. However, Mostafa Mohamed sealed the win with a late goal, securing Nantes’ third home victory of the season.

With his remarkable consistency from 12 yards, Simon is on the brink of cementing his legacy as Nantes’ most dependable penalty taker in recent history.
