Six persons have reportedly lost their lives while one sustained varying degrees of injury in a multiple accident in Ibadan, on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

City Round gathered that the first road accident occurred at about midnight, on Thursday along the new Ibadan/Oyo Expressway in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state, in which one person died.

Another accident occurred around midnight on Friday, close to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited Filling Station, at Ojoo/Iwo-Road, in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area, which killed five people.

A source told City Round, “The trailer was coming from the northern part of the country alongside the victim. The victim sat at the back of the trailer with cows. He had already slept off when the trailer veered off the road. So, he hit his head on the ground which led to his demise.”

The Friday accident reportedly involved a commercial Nissan Micra car carrying five passengers, which collided with a long truck.

One of the sources said, “The identities of the driver of the car and the passengers are yet to be known.

“Their dead bodies were evacuated by the government relevant agencies that midnight, and taken to undisclosed morgue within Ibadan metropolises.”

Another source said, “The incident occurred around midnight directly opposite the NNPCL Filling Station, General Gas area.”

When contacted, the state Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Rosemary Alo, confirmed both the incident and the number of casualties.

She explained that 12 people were involved in the accident at the NNPCL area, adding that “five people died, one injured and six escaped unhurt.

“One person died on Thursday at Idi-Ose, while five people died and one person sustained injury at General Gas area, opposite NNPCL filling station. Six others escaped unhurt.”
