Penis size does not impact sexual function or fertility significantly, specialists in human sexology have said.

The experts explained that where performance or fertility issues arise, hormonal levels, sperm quality, and overall health play a much bigger role.

Speaking exclusively with PUNCH Healthwise, they maintained that when it comes to sexual satisfaction, size doesn’t matter to a larger percentage of women.

A Consultant Urologist, Dr Gabriel Ogah, said there was no link between penis size and men’s fertility, adding that size has nothing to do with male reproductive organ’s functions.

“No, a small penis does not affect men’s fertility. Fertility for men is the ability to impregnate a woman. If you have normal sperm, even if your penis is small, you can impregnate a woman. Once you can masturbate and produce semen, it means you can impregnate a woman,” he said.

The men’s reproductive health expert attributed the craze for longer penis size to exposure to porn, adding that most men who feel pressured have a normal size.

Ogah added, “It is scarce for penis size to affect sexual function or satisfaction. Most penis are okay, it is just that a lot of young people nowadays are crazy about long penis due to their exposure to pornography and all that

“But for most people, the size of their penis is normal and even the one described as small does not affect its intended functions. Most people’s penis is normal.

“When I was in Lagos, a lot of patients used to come, pay for consultation money to see me, just because they feel they have a small penis but not any of them that I measured have a small penis.

“It is just that the craze and demand for longer penis is now high. Even elderly people are looking for drugs to make their penis longer which is not possible.”

A Clinical Sexologist, Cecilia Agu, said penis size often gets way more attention than it deserves, adding that other factors bring about sexual satisfaction beyond size.

According to her, women are more interested in emotional connection, chemistry, and creativity, rather than just size.

She said, “For most men, what truly matters is overall health, the chemistry and emotional well-being with your wife, and the creativity you bring to the bedroom.  Rare conditions might signal hormonal issues, but generally, size is not a major factor in fertility or performance.

“When it comes to genuine sexual satisfaction, size is rarely the headline act. Instead of stressing about measurements, focus on building that playful, passionate connection and keeping your body in top form.

“I know that it is easier said than done, but as a woman, and a sexologist, size does not matter to a larger percentage of women who are self-aware and confident in the bed, how you use what you have is the most important thing.”

The sexologist explained that myths, cultural symbols and media hype were reasons why societal standards often equate penis size with masculinity or sexual prowess.

“Societal standards often tie penis size to masculinity and $ex prowess due to a mix of historical myths, cultural symbols, and modern media hype.

“For centuries, art and literature celebrated size as a mark of virility, and today’s pop culture and pornography continue to spotlight exaggerated traits.

“Plus, some business people capitalize on these perceptions by selling aphrodisiacs, penis enlargement pills, and longer erection bitters, further reinforcing the outdated idea that bigger is always better,” Agu said.

On medical conditions that can lead to a smaller-than-average penis size, the sexologist said, “Certain medical conditions can lead to a smaller-than-average penis size. For example, micropenis where the stretched length is significantly below average is often linked to low testosterone levels during key developmental periods.

“This can result from conditions like congenital hypogonadism, growth hormone deficiencies, or issues with the pituitary gland. In some cases, genetic conditions such as Klinefelter syndrome may also play a role. If concerns arise, it’s wise to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation.”
