SportSociedad’s Umar laments Inter stalemate

Real Sociedad Nigerian striker, Sadiq Umar, is disappointed after his side’s 1-1 draw with Inter Milan in their opening Group D game of the UEFA Champions League.
Umar, who made his debut in the competition coming on for Mikel Oyazarbal in the 72nd minute when Sociedad were leading 1-0, was left to rue a late equaliser from Lautaro Martinez three minutes from time, which earned Inter Milan, last season’s finalists, a share of the spoils.
Martinez’s goal canceled out a fourth-minute strike from Brais Mendez.
The result sees Inter and Real Sociedad occupy second and third places while RB Salzburg, who won 2-0 at Benfica, lead the standings in Group D with three points.
Speaking to Oma Sport after the game, the 27-year-old said, “I was not happy because we were winning 1-0 when I came on but the game ended 1-1 as they scored a late goal.
“I was sad about the result. We just have to look forward to the next game. I feel so sorry we could not win the game. We have one point, which is also good, but I feel so sorry because we could have gotten the three points.
“Games like this are very difficult, we could not keep the pace and they scored with the chance they had.”
Umar, whose only goal for Sociedad was against Atletico Madrid on his debut in March 2022, will seek to add to his tally when he makes his 10th appearance in their LaLiga clash against Getafe on Sunday.
The forward previously featured for UD Almeria, Partizan Belgrade, Perugia, NAC Breda, Bologna, AS Roma, Glasgow Rangers, Torino and Spezia, before joining Sociedad.
