A lawmaker who represented Osun East Senatorial District in the Senate between the years 2011 and 2019, Senator Babajide Omoworare, has said many inner roads in South West region were in a deplorable state.

Senator Omoworare spoke on Thursday in Ile-Ife, Osun State, during the inauguration of road projects
he facilitated while serving as the Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters to the immediate past president, Maj. Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (retd.).

Some of the roads inaugurated during the ceremony include; Obalogun/Orunobaado/Gbelenkan, Oke-yetoro/Abewele/Odo-Ogbe, Akarabata/Ogoni lane, Aiyelabowo and Orilonise roads among others.

Also inaugurated were the street light projects executed at Lagere, Aderemi, Eyindi, Omisore, Enuwa, Olofin, Oja Ife, Moremi, and Parakin areas among others.

The ex-federal parliamentarian, who said efforts were being made to fix inner roads in the region to protect major routes from pressure, further said, “I am trying my best at the Federal level to see that Federal government comes to intervene in that aspect, but internal roads in South West especially are very bad.

“These are roads that were made 40-50 years ago and nothing has happened concerning them. So, that is what we are doing at the moment.

“We are trying to fix the internal roads that would even save the ring roads. Instead of taking ring roads and burning your fuel, you can always go within the street and they are all well-lit. There are solar lights everywhere, and there are good drainages within Ife now but it is too minimal. That is like 10% of what we should do but we have to start somewhere. If you don’t take a step you won’t travel in miles.”

Speaking before he formally opened the roads for use as part of activities commemorating Omoworare’s birthday, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, lauded the politician for his commitment to the progress of Ife town.

Ogunwusi, who was represented by the Obalufe of Ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura, further said, “I celebrate a man whose legacy of service, leadership, and dedication to community development has deeply enriched the lives of many. Senator Omoworare exemplifies the noble ideals of humility, integrity, and commitment to the betterment of his people.

“Today, as he commissions the new roads he has constructed in different parts of Ile-Ife, we are reminded of his visionary spirit and his unwavering dedication to uplifting his beloved community.”
