A housewife, identified as Rabi Nuhu of Magama Gumau in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has been accused of inflicting severe burns on her five-year-old stepdaughter over frequent bedwetting.

DAILY POST reports that this is coming a week after another minor was left in excruciating pains after her brother’s wife allegedly burnt her private part with a hot knife in Magama Gumau, in same Toro LGA, over witchcraft allegations.

The latest incident involved a minor, whose mother died about a year ago, and has since been living with her father, Mohammed Umar, and his new wife.

Residents alleged that the child has endured repeated acts of violence in the home.

According to Kabiru Mohammed Abdulkadir, a community member and human rights activist, the abuse had gone on for a while before it came to light.

“To prevent further punishment, the father bought her a separate mattress, but the violence continued. The girl later confided in her uncle that her stepmother burnt her private part because she bed wets frequently.

”It was the uncle who reported the matter to the police,” Abdulkadir said.

He further alleged that the suspect often vented her frustrations from marital disagreements on the child.

Speaking with journalists, the victim’s father, Mohammed Umar, who works with an online television station, said his wife had persistently complained about the child’s bedwetting.

He confirmed that he bought a separate mattress to reduce tension in the home but admitted he initially believed his wife’s explanation that the girl sustained burns from spilled hot tea.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Mohammed Wakil, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday. He said the case was reported on September 13, 2025, around 3:00 pm.

“The victim sustained burns on her lower abdomen, thighs, and buttocks,” Wakil said, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, had ordered the suspect’s immediate arrest and directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation.
