The Nigerian film industry is set for a cinematic revolution as Fitofilifilms and 7eventh Studio have partnered to unveil their highly anticipated historical thriller titled, The Masked King.

A statement sent to Society Plus stated that the film is scheduled for a nationwide release on March 28, with an exclusive star-studded premiere coming up on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Distributed by Genesis Pictures, the film is a story of betrayal, sacrifice, mystery, deception, complexity of power and redemption.

Speaking about the film, the producer, Francis Ohazulike, said it cost about N300m to shoot the movie.

He added, “The story spotlights Mary Slessor, the Scottish missionary famous for her role in stopping the killing of twins in Okoyong, Cross River. It was filmed to tell the African story within the context of authenticity, values and traditions in an appealing fashion

“The project was highly capital intensive in terms of travelling from Calabar to Creek Town on boats as well as rebuilding the palace of the king to replicate the actual incident but it was a worthy venture.”

Similarly, the associate producer and creative lead at 7eventh Studio, Joshua Cassidy, added that while he is optimistic about a return on investment on the movie.

Actors in the star-studded movie include Daniel Etim Effiong, Shaffy Bello, Uche Montana, Segun Arinze, Jude Chukwuka, Uzor Arukwe, Gideon Okeke, Jenny Stead, and Bernard Raubenheimer; with Uduak Obong as the director and Awal Abdulfatai as the writer.
