The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Command, SP Shiisu Adam, in a statement in Dutse, the State capital on Saturday evening, the suspects were arrested on February 8, 2025, at Illela town, Sokoto State.

The police spokesperson said the suspects, Mallam Adamu Aliyu, 30; Mallam Mukhtar Abdulmumin, 37; and Mallam Nafiu Ibrahim, 80, all from Hadejia, Auyo, and Miga Local Government Areas, respectively, were found to have conspired among themselves to deceive and collect N400,000 from one Ahmad Abdullahi, 19, who has since died.

Accordingly, “The police investigation revealed that the suspects lured the deceased to a river site in Hadejia town, where he was strangled and thrown into the river when he asked for his money. The suspects then fled to the Niger Republic but were later arrested and brought back to Jigawa State,” the statement reads.

Adam stated that the case had been charged to court for prosecution. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served, and those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to book,” he said.

In a related development, the police have also arrested one Ahmed Habibu, 18, for stealing a motorcycle valued at N600,000. “The suspect was arrested on February 24, 2025, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered in his possession,” the Jigawa police spokesperson said.

He commended the efforts of the police patrol teams, who were instrumental in arresting the suspects and recovering the stolen motorcycle. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our communities are safe and secure,” he added.

Additionally, the police have also arrested one Manniru Yusuf, 30, for attempting to commit culpable homicide. The suspect was arrested on February 24, 2025, after he attempted to shoot one Ramma Sule, 50, with a locally made pistol.

Also, in another effort, the police have recovered two locally made rifles, three AK-47 live ammunition, a cash sum of N36,000, and rice from a group of suspected armed robbers.

“The suspects were pursued by the police patrol team along Bariki Quarters, Hadejia metropolitan, but they abandoned their loot and fled,” Adam stated noting that efforts were being made to locate and apprehend the fleeing perpetrators.

“We will not rest until we bring these criminals to justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police have urged members of the public to continue to support their efforts in fighting crime and ensuring that communities are safe and secure.
