Ndidi, Iheanacho, Onyeka get Nigeria Super Eagles

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed his delight after midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was cleared to play in Sunday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup play-off final against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Ndidi was initially thought to be suspended after picking up a second yellow card during Nigeria’s 4–1 victory over Gabon on Thursday. However, the Confederation of African Football later confirmed that the booking would not rule him out of the final in Rabat.

Troost-Ekong said the news lifted the mood in camp, as Ndidi is an important part of the squad.

“We are happy that Wilfred can play tomorrow, the clarification is out now, no issues. We also understand what it means for any player on a yellow card to miss a game. It’s good to know that he is available for the game,” he told the Super Eagles media team.

Ndidi was one of the standout performers against Gabon, providing the assist for Victor Osimhen’s goal, which put Nigeria firmly in control of the match.

With the midfielder now available, Nigeria head into Sunday’s final with renewed confidence as they push for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
