To mark this year’s Africa Day, the United Bank for Africa has reaffirmed its dedication to empowering young people to take up leadership roles.
In a statement, the bank said the event, which was celebrated across the bank’s 20 African subsidiaries, including New York, United Kingdom, France and Dubai aimed at encouraging Africans at home and abroad to be patriotic and embrace their culture.
Themed ‘Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality, and Relevant Learning in Africa,’ the bank said this year’s celebration reinforced its belief and passion for education.
This, it said, is exemplified in its foundation’s National Essay Competition where winners who emerge are given scholarships through school.
The Group Managing Director of UBA, Oliver Alawuba said that the bank’s focus has “always been on empowering Africa’s youth by honing the critical thinking prowess of our youth as well as grooming them for leadership roles across the continent.”
He added, “Unity is critical and very important for the future of Africa, we need to remain united to achieve our aspirations and the youth are critical to that growth.”
