The future of Nigerian forward Christantus Uche is uncertain despite Wolverhampton Wanderers’ efforts to finalise a deal for the Getafe player.

Uche, who scored four goals and made six assists in 33 matches during his debut La Liga season, was expected to leave Spain after Wolves submitted a €20 million bid. The Premier League club had already reached an agreement with Getafe, who are under pressure to sell players due to La Liga’s registration rules.

Getafe president Ángel Torres admitted he was unhappy with the situation, saying he was “forced” to sell Uche because of league restrictions. He even confirmed that the forward was expected to undergo medical tests ahead of signing for Wolves.

However, the deal has since taken a twist. AC Milan joined the race earlier in the week, with one of their directors watching Uche during Getafe’s clash against Sevilla. Crystal Palace have also shown late interest as they search for attacking midfield options following Eberechi Eze’s move to Arsenal.

Despite the strong interest, reports in Spain suggest Uche is unsure about leaving Getafe. Transfer expert Matteo Moretto claims talks with Wolves have almost collapsed, while the player’s agent has added confusion by refusing to give a clear update, saying only that Uche “wants to play everywhere, on the pitch.”

The uncertainty has fuelled speculation, with Spanish media even reporting that Uche was spotted leaving the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Wednesday morning, though it remains unclear whether he skipped training or was preparing for Getafe’s weekend fixture against Valencia.

While Wolves’ reported offer stands at €16 million plus €4 million in add-ons, Getafe have not commented further. Coach José Bordalás, however, has made his stance clear, insisting he wants to keep the Nigerian after his strong start to the season, which included a goal and an assist in a man-of-the-match display against Celta Vigo.
