Winners emerge in Commissioner’s Cup tourney

The highly anticipated Commissioner’s Cup final 2025 came to a thrilling conclusion at the San Siro Stadium in Ipaja, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos.

The tournament ended amidst fanfare with Dr Watts emerging champions after beating Trade Safe FC 8-7 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The third-place match also ended on penalties after Gunners FA fought back to beat De Gracia FC 5-3 in the shootout as both teams squared it up 1-1 in 90 minutes.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Bolaji Ogunlende, commended the organisers for resuscitating the tournament 23 years after it was last played. He promised state support for good initiatives like the Commissioner’s Cup, aimed at discovering talents.

The sponsor, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, said he was thrilled with the standard exhibited during the tournament and pledged to give the facilities at the San Siro a facelift for the betterment of youths in Alimosho.

Winners Dr Watts took home the cash prize of N500,000 while the runners-up Trade Safe FC received N250,000, with the third-best team, Gunners FA, receiving t N150,000.

Individual awards were also presented to the best player of the tournament, highest goal scorer, and best goalkeeper.
