Super Falcons forward Rahseedat Ajibade is anticipating a tough clash against Australia, as Nigeria face the co-hosts in their second match of the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Thursday.
After missing the opening game against Canada due to suspension, Ajibade is expected to return to Randy Waldrum’s starting lineup for the second game. Ajibade as well as Halimatu Ayinde missed the first game as a result of being sent off in the semi-final of last year’s WAFCON against hosts Morocco.
Appearing in her second world cup and tagged as one of the key players for Nigeria, the Atletico Madrid Feminine forward said she is looking forward to the encounter.
“Personally, I’m fine. Really pumped up for the game. It’s going to be a difficult game because we’re playing the host team in front of their own fans and at their own stadium with so much crowd. A lot of factors.
“However, I think we’ve got this. I trust the team. We have the capacity; we have the talent and we have the energy. We just have to bring our ‘A’ game to the party and we can do it.”
Barring any knock in the team, Ajibade is most likely to replace either Francisca Ordega or Ifeoma Onumonu in the starting line up while Ayinde possibly the clear replacement for the impressive Deborah Abiodun who got a red card against the Canadians.
