WBF International champion Aina Abbey will face IBO Intercontinental and WBC Youth World champion Jeyssa Marcel in a female bantamweight clash on April 12 at the Zenith Metropole in Nantes, France.
Both undefeated boxers will put their belts on the line in eight rounds of action of their bout in Western France.
Abbey, who is currently holding her training session at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos is expecting a tough bout against her 22-year-old opponent.
“I just finished 15 rounds of sparring,” she told PRIMANEWS Sports Extra on Thursday.
“I invited some girls from Ogun State to come and spar with me in Lagos. It is a tough fight because she is number one in her country in our weight category and I am going to fight her there.”
‘Iron Abbey’, however, remains confident in her ability to leave the ring with both the WBF and IBO belts in tow.
“It is a challenge like any good fight but I still have the belief that I am going to win against her, I want to defeat her even more especially because I know it is going to be in hostile ground for me,” the 27-year-old said.
“I have promised my manager Ibrahim Fijabi that I will make the girl bleed,” Abbey added. “I am very determined because I want to bring the glory back to Nigeria.”
Abbey told our correspondent that she would be travelling from Nigeria to France for the bout on April 10, two days before she would face one of her toughest challenges in the ring.
The Nigerian holds an undefeated professional boxing record of 11 wins and nine knockouts while the Frenchwoman holds a record of 12 wins and two knockouts.
Abbey may have Nigerian footballer Moses Simon in her corner during the bout as he is a known boxing fan, who watched Anthony Joshua’s bout at the 02 Arena in 2023 days before attending singer Asake’s concert at the same venue.
Simon would not need to make a trip to London this time as Abbey’s fight is right in Nantes, where he plays for FC Nantes.
