Nigeria’s international kart racer, Phillip Gana, has announced his readiness to feature and also sponsor few drivers at X-Kart Series to be hosted to be at the Work and Play Arena in February and March in Ondo and Ogun states.
The first of the series will be held on Sagamu-Abeokuta Express Way, Ogun State in February while the second will follow in Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State in March.
Gana, who was born in Hungary and grew up in London is Nigeria’s first licensed kart racer. His father is from Kwara State while his mother is from Niger State.
“I’m very proud, I’m very honoured to be representing the Nigerian people of all different tribes of course. That’s one of my motivations to keep going and to be representing such a good nation,” Gana told The PRIMANEWS during an exclusive interview in 2023.
President of the Work and Play group, Ade Ojuoko hinted that Gana’s team will be drawn from teenage drivers between the ages of 14 to 19.
“The X-Kart series is essentially a youth-driven sport and Gana will be featuring a largely teenage team and that also leaves the other competitors in the coming series challenged.
“I guess it is a good thing that the motorsports community is generating traction to have attracted the interest of Phillip Gana. As one of the front runners in the promotion of the sports, we believe this will further our developmental plans in several ways,” President of the Work and Play group, Ade Ojuoko said while reeling out plans for the event.
According to Ojuoko, the series has been checked on all sides for safety, including working with the Federal Road Safety Corps.
“From our gears to the building of the karts, safety is our first consideration. There are also other safety protocols, that include the Federal Road Safety Corps’ checks on the facilities and all karts, and the inclusion of first aid officials at all event venues.”
