A former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, on Saturday, appealed to Nigerians to continue to support the present administration of President Bola Tinubu, saying he is “sure the government will succeed and when he succeeds, all of us has succeeded.”
Omo-Agege made the appeal at a homecoming reception organised in his honour in Ughelli, Delta State, by his political associates and members of his community.
The lawmaker, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District in the Ninth National Assembly, was also the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Delta State in the 2023 general elections.
While commending Tinubu for his Renewed Hope Agenda, Omo-Agege submitted that “Tinubu had done very well.”
He said, “President Tinubu is a president for everybody. He has not disappointed us. We championed and fought for his emergence because we know his track record as former governor of Lagos State.
“We made the case that what he did in Lagos State, he should replicate it across the country.
“When he started as President, we saw the economic downturn, the aural spiral out of control but today, things are taking shape gradually.
“This is just the beginning, he is our own. I am sure he will succeed and when he succeeds all of us has succeeded.”
He enjoined Nigerians to be patient and continue to pray for the President to lead the nation to the promised land just as he expressed confidence that “the President would turn things around for better in the country in the next eight years of his rule.”
“We gave the President all our best in Delta; championed his Renewed Hope Agenda to every nook and crannies in the state. We should be patient, he will remember everybody,” he added.
Omo-Agege recalled five persons that lost their lives during the last day of the APC governorship campaign in the creeks of Gbaramatu kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state.
He said, “I will forever remember the five die-hard APC members that lost their lives in the creeks of Gbaramatu kingdom. They wanted the best for our state.
“Our people voted en masse but the Supreme Court rule said otherwise. We respect the court.
“But the Bible says in everything, we should give thanks.
“I thank you all for what you have done. I pledged to serve you and you voted me. If I do not appreciate, then I am an ingrate.”
Dignitaries who also spoke at the event included Senator Ede Dafinone, who succeeded Omo-Agege as the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
He remarked that “Omo-Agege fought the most organised, structured and successful campaign in the history of Delta,” adding that “many of us still believed strongly that the APC won the 2023 Delta governorship election”.
Dafinone, however, stated that “as law-abiding Nigerians, we have listened to the verdict of the Supreme Court and stand by the verdict.”
