A WOMAN in her 90s was pulled alive from a collapsed house last night — five days after an earthquake killed at least 126 people.

The survivor in Suzu city, western Japan, was taken to hospital but her condition was unknown.

She was found alive after 124 hours in the rubble. Chances for survival diminish after the first 72 hours.

Meanwhile, a five-year-old boy was recovering after boiling water fell on him during the quake died in hospital in the region.

A 7.6-magnitude quake struck on Monday, triggering fires, landslides and tsunami warnings.

Aftershocks have complicated the rescue and aid relief efforts.

More than 500 people were injured and at least 200 are still unaccounted for.

Some 30,000 had to be evacuated to public buildings.

Messages of condolences came from world leaders, including an unexpected one from North Korean tyrant Kim Jong Un.

The last time Japan received a condolence message from North Korea for a disaster was in 1995.
